We love this game it is our favorite game. Our favorite one of them is legends of the west. We just wish on the app to play there were more map choices to chose from. Hopefully they will get added. Pensilvania one would be a great addition and our grandkids love playing this game as well to have the kids ones added would be awesome. Our grandkids love the ghost train one a lot and they would play it on there tablets.
We have a lot of Marmalade Games that we play with our son. This is the only one that requires a bubble account to play together online. No matter how many times we try to play Ticket To Ride it sends us to another game. We both deleted our bubble accounts. Please make this game playable with friends by sending a code via Messenger like all the other games we play.
Please make more maps, would love to see the Wild West, japan, and Africa maps. Please make them as soon as possible.
UPDATE: Changing rating after the latest release of Mega and Big Cities, this is GREAT and was what the game needed in order to stay fresh due to replayability. The ranked system also looks amazing, the only tweak we would make is for custom games to include a FILTER by rank for opponents. This will create a more competitive atmosphere, where players are being ranked against others of the same skill. The closer the skill, the higher the stars earned in the game. It all relates to the MMR system of other games, that way high-ranking players are able to play with similarly skilled opponents. Other than this, we are very excited and looking forward to the next map! We played a lot of the previous app, and we think the Marmalade team is going in the right direction. They have adjusted several issues which bothered veteran players, including simplified maps and a faster gaming experience. We particularly liked how you streamlined the double routes claimed on 1v1 games. A few things to consider below: 1. There needs to be a ranked system put in place soon. Come up with something creative (like tiers), but that was the main reason the veteran and regular players played the game constantly. Our family likes the new implementation, but they always ask about when you guys are implementing the ranked system as thats the reason why they kept playing the older app. 2. Aside from expansions, game extensions (including Mega 1910) need to be added to the game. This gave the main map (USA) a lot of replayability, which was by far the most played map online. Please consider this as having few ticket cards in the main map makes it feel repetitive, especially when its the only version people who paid for the app are playing. 3. You should start hinting at what other expansions you guys plan to release! We will edit as we keep playing more, but we feel the team has been constantly and regularly updating the game to please us, veteran players. Keep listening to your audience and you will soon have everyone satisfied, Marmalade! EDIT 2: Please bring other expansions that were not featured in the previous app, that would be amazing. E.g. Amsterdam, Around the Globe, New York City, Etc.
We’ve played this game twice as a board game, today we discovered the app, and we just had to have it. We love that it allows a board game feel, without requiring we have the board myself, or friends over. We can just play from our phone with friends OR AI! Genius and perfect for our introvert nature!
In general the AI is vastly superior to the old app. The gameplay is dragged slower by all the animations (getting cards, placing them, score taking at the end (longest train animations, bubble sort of winners and you have to keep hitting Skip). We’ve turned game speed to fast, turned off battery saver, and turned on simplified map. Id love a disable animations toggle (I know they required a bunch of development time but they are grueling). A solo game easily takes 50% longer than it used to with the old app. It is generally pretty though. And AI is way better But please allow a less chromed out experience so we can play a quick game in 5 minutes.
Fun game for flights or when you just want to catch your breath for a few minutes. Graphics are simple yet attractive, UX is intuitive. When they initially rolled this out, it felt too beta and glitchy. Theyve apparently fixed most of the bugs, especially whatever was causing game play to slow to a crawl after you played 20 or so games. Although that bug still is fixed, we wish theyd give the option to NOT save games. We dont ever want to go back and replay a game, so once we get the message that our game memory is full, we have to delete and reload, which means new game name. Such a silly bug. Im tempted to buy one of the other boards, like Europe. But the $4.99 we paid for a European board on one of their other games – Monopoly – was pretty awful. We wish theyd let you try a game before you have to buy it.
We LOVED this game and played it constantly until a few days ago. Not sure if there is a bug in the update or what happened. Now we cant play or start a new game because we dont have enough save slots – However, deleting slots and resigning from games doesnt seem to fix the issue. We hope this changes soon because we miss playing and we even spent the money for expansions.
We love this game! But the lack of notifications when its your turn make it unlikely to keep going through normal day activities. So if you need everyone full attention you might as play the board game. We always forget we are playing without notifications. A few glitches as well in starting the game / add friend process. But great potential and great game !
So it started off as a beautiful relationship cause we love the game but be weary it says under 1Gb but ours with 1 save file and purchased map pack is sitting at 7GB of space used we really might have to delete game its using more than 10% of our phones storage!!
We were a big fan of the previous version of the Ticket to Ride app and was sad to see it go. We downloaded the new version and there are some advantages over the last version, but a few drawbacks too. (Not being able to play for rankings is one.) But the biggest issue is that it glitches. Ill be playing and then there will be a connection issue. Ill get signed back in and it looks like we can play, but some of the game features will be missing, like the stack of cards at the top, and we wont be able to actually play.
Weve been having fun with the updated maps, but on the pass and play feature for the new Europe 1912 maps we keep getting freezing that locks the game even after quitting and restarting that ends the game.
Things are definitely progressing but Im hesitant to give it another star yet Giving back the plain map was a huge improvement in game play which definitely earned them a star But there are still issues with color visibility and train placement that can make the game not fun and annoying too often we see that there is a new leaderboard option now. This is a great addition but Im going to wait to see the implementation and common sense approach to it before we count it as a good or bad thing. If it turns out to be a good implementation, we will change our review to three stars.
Our friends and we all enjoyed playing the old version of this game to stay connected during COVID. Recently we tried to revisit it and realized we had to download this new version and pay again. Instead of an even better experience, which you would expect from a new release, the game is unplayable. It freezes at least twice during each turn for up to thirty seconds at a time making playing a quick game with friends an hour-long test in patience. We tried multiple suggestions from the internet and none fixed the problem. Other odd design choices are present. The cursor/pointer to place your trains is under your finger making it extremely difficult to accurately place your trains. The color scheme is strange with the tracks and cards being similar in color but not matching (pink tracks with purple cards) and the trains that have been placed do a glimmering thing that is very hard on the eyes. We will be requesting a refund from Apple for our purchase.
The old TTR was an iPhone favorite. This one appears to have the same gameplay but is almost unplayable due to awful graphics choices. Instead of a clean interface designed for an iPhone screen we now have a cluttered map with essential game play information shrunken to microscopic size. It looks like it was designed on and for a full-size computer monitor. Not one single graphics decision fails to make the game less enjoyable and harder to play. Even something as basic as choosing a route is difficult because of the minuscule unclear graphics. Even the animations of claiming a route are weird and laggy. If you manage to select the route you want there is a pause, your train cars zoom around the map, then eventually land on the route. Since this is by now a domestic ritual with the old version, we’ll keep it, but the poor design is less fun and we can’t play as much due to eye strain. If you loved the old version pass on this new one unless just can’t live without a portable TTR game. The graphics are that bad. We’ll stay away from this studio, too.
The game is wonderful. We had been playing the other version until the servers had shut down. We would love to see some kind of progression system like exists with Monopoly.
We need the 1910 expansion on the mobile app! This game is so much better with more destinations!
Loved the board game and old app. At first we thought this one is terrible. This version has really grown on us. Fun to play, the solo mode on hard is tough and gives real competition. Excellent game. Sorry for the original bad review.
Appreciate the developers. They were willing to listen to so many of us and have offered a basically white background similar to the original. We plan to ask family and friends to join in now. 5 stars for listening to your audience!
Update #4. We are enjoying the game now. What started as cringeworthy has now transformed into something with promise. Anything like rankings or other features will be a bonus. But thank you for the simplified map!! Gameplay online in USA 2 player has been fine. No drops or glitches for us. Update 3rd review: YESSSSSSS! Map in the regular view (colorful view) is much easier to see with the shadow or contrasting outline that was added, but more importantly, a toggle button that allows for a simplified map (less busy, less color, more contrast) that looks great! Thank you thank you thank you, to the game developers. Card to track color ( especially pink) is still weird. But man, this is getting better! Two star now four star and this is also a fist bump for effort!! _____________________2nd review: colors are still weird. Contrast may have improved (I wish we had a screen shot of previous versions to compare). Anyway, gameplay has improved. Our pinch and zoom seems to respond more predictably. We have played online and have not been disconnected as others complained about earlier so we appreciate the developer effort here. We are looking forward to updates. Perhaps users will have options to change some screen elements in future updates? We would love to be able to drop the mountains our make them more muted. We would also like wider tracks at full zoom out._______________1st review we bought the game today to see what all the fuss is about in the comments. We wont play again until we see improvments. As a long time ipad player of the old game, we agree with others about the poor color contrast and choice of colors. These choices make identifying the others players trains on tracks difficult. The background land of the USA is too dark, in our opinion. Our eyes are fine and we are playing on a late model ipad with 10 + screen. Too much screen space is wasted on the surrounding oceans of North America and the mountains of Canada. Great graphics but, for gameplay, we would prefer a zoomed in view and larger tracks so that we can drop our trains troublefree. Sure, we can zoom we tried that but it is glitchy on iPad and doesnt seem to pinch to zoom when and where we expect. In fact, sometimes the gesture seems to do the opposite. Please, look at the old game and understand what long time players are saying about why that board was appreciated. It was flat, it had nicely sized train tracks and the location of other players trains on routes was instantly recognizable.
Awesomeness of the digital world.
Our random thought is the cards dealt do not seem so random/ shuffled.
Love the new view– much closer to the original; however, can you turn off the "spotlight effect" on the tracks? It makes it hard to tell which tracks have trains vs open tracks.
Let us start by saying how much that both myself and our fianc love this game. We previously owned the other one 2 years ago but that was discontinued. Recently we downloaded this version and bought the expansion packs that were available . We normally play against each other and really enjoy this as kinda quiet time with one another enjoying each others company . These past two days when playing against one another the game has frozen and booted us from the game. We had originally thought that it may be a WiFi issue so we disconnected WiFi and proceeded to go back to the game utilizing the our games tab. That seemed to temporarily fix it however it happened again when not on WiFi. The issue that prompted us to write this was that after an additional hour of play our fianc had the same issue. Any ideas why this happened? At the very least we felt that we should alert you in case that its an ongoing issue. We would also like to see additional expansion other than the two that we have purchased. Thank you, Allen Hill.
We bought the complete version of the game, but we are disappointed with the lack of variety of tickets. When we play we get almost the same destinations every time. There are very few long routes offered. Also we thought a new map would be available by now.
We had the old retired version and bought this new one too and while the graphics are still good, theres no local pass and play which our family used constantly. When will that be added?
Definitely quite a bit of work to get back to where we were with the old app, but hopefully well get there soon. Top annoyances: (1) Colors still not the right contrast. In the old app we can tell immediately whats a train car and whats track of a given color. Hard to make out at a glance for almost all the colors. Shadows or skews or better colors or all would help. (2) No 1910 for usa. Theres a reason 1910 is popular. The base game does not encourage destination draws. (3) If we press on a train card in our hand and drag it, why on earth would the pointer be under our finger?? You need to offset to a reasonable vertical position. We cant see where Im placing it. Do you even test it yourselves? (4) Would be nice for the score summary to show which bonuses applied for each player. (5) This might be the biggest one and what prevents us from telling any of our friends to get it: offline (wifi/bluetooth) mode. We like to get together and play from our devices. We guess we will keep using the old app for now for that. No reason to get this new one. Plus we have all the maps in Classic.
Still kind of glitchy but the mac version is definetly better/faster than the steam one. Still really missing ranking, mega maps, more countries (germany!!) and the timer is so weird. Still miss the old app but slowly improving.
Many things we liked about the other game this doesnt provide. No ranking. Graphics are harder to see the pieces on the game board. You can see you is trying to play automatically. This one you have to refresh to join a game. No chat. No funny graphics like tipping your hat to other players. All and all just dont like it as well. Since the map change came about its better. Still need to update improve the online application of starting a game. It doesnt refresh and we dont like having to go back to the beginning if a game is full and we dont get to play.
For some reason, the replacement for the old TTR has decided not to recreate the old cumulative ranking system. The result is that you now cant play expert games. Its a major defect that they should fix. Otherwise the new game is basically a copy of the old one. Hopefully they fix this soon.
We purchased this game as the other TTR game is no longer available. We like the game; however, we wish there was ranking for the players to make it competitive. Without a ranking system, its just boring to play. May want to add this feature in. Otherwise, the game is great!
Please bring back ranked score, PLEASE!
Overall pretty unstable app, with regular crashes. It often crashes in the middle of the game and then AI does random moves. The old app was amazing, but they sadly removed that and force you to play this version. Had to also pay more to unlock other maps that we had already paid for on the old app.
We are reviewing again since we first played the new version. We did not like the graphics. They did change them so its a little better now. We still like the old version better. We also dont like that there doesnt seem to be a reason to play other than to just play. Now when we play, we either win or lose, and its over. Before, we were trying to rank higher. There is no ranking anymore. So we dont seem to have an incentive to win other than to win. We miss the karma scale and being able to play other ranked players. It just seems like the game went backwards. We dont understand why you messed with a good thing. It was our favorite game. We dont look forward to playing as much as we used to. Also, we miss all the other maps that we paid extra money for. Honestly, we feel like when they came out with a new version. The people who already owned it shouldnt have had to pay again. We feel like maybe it was just to make more money.
This version is horrible! Nothing like the old TTR! We have played TTR for years and this one is just odd, slow and very hard to follow IMO as far as joining and starting a game. Dont really like anything about it sadly.
Nothing like the old app ticket to ride. We paid for it before we had all our family join. Would not recommend spending your money on it. All the other expansion packs cost from $7.99 to 34.99. Color quality is poor. Hard for it to recognize where you are trying to put your trains. Im young and its not easy on the eye. If you are trying to replace the old app this isnt going to make you happy. Really wish they could take over the old game and start that one back up.
We are giving this app one more star because they improved the washed out colors look of the cards. Still incredibly incredibly small font and trains. Its laughable that they are trying to sell upgraded train cars when – if played on a phone – the train cars appear 1/3 of the size of an ant! They need to increase the font size on the map, improve the contrast of the city names on the map, increase the size of the trains on the map, at a minimum. Also would really like to see the Swiss map and rankings! Still mourning the old app!
This has been out for a while now. Would love if we could add the expansion packs that include more ticketsroll-out has been slow and a bit disappointing for having to pay money for. That being said, the improved computer performance has been nice.
Thank god they added a timer, although it still doesnt keep a players individual total amount of time and subtract as the game progresses like the old one. They have to figure out this bug which is still happening where it doesnt accept the track or route youve picked when you lay the curser on it. Its clear which route youre choosing but times out and picks cards.
We loved the original Ticket to Ride Game. This one is an inferior app in comparison. We agree with other reviews about it being difficult to see your trains on the board. Another even worse thing to add is that we were charged $35 for all boards without our knowledge. When we reached out to Apple, they didnt reimburse us. So Im stuck with the charge. Usually we would say, oh well, but because of the poor layout of the game, we have no interests in playing the different boards. We owned all of the boards in the previous game. Be very careful is you decide to buy this app. We hope you have a better experience than we did.
If you loved the old game, this version will make you sad in so many ways – strange graphics, unnecessary animation, small cards, Lucky Charms markers for city routes, and a huge chunk of Mexico that is now visible for no apparent reason, making the whole board minuscule. We wonder if this version was developed by a wayward AI with no sense of what makes a game enjoyable or even playable. Alan Moon, please reclaim your amazing creation back from this evil overlord of inefficiency and reclaim the old version! There is no help for this product.
This title WAS one of our favorite games. But it seems to have been abandoned and taken over by a team with less skill. While it may look appealing, it lacks substance. We feel we wasted money on it. The maps are hard to read. The machine generated characters are stupid. The graphics are gaudy, but meh. Dont waste your money.
The new version is terrible! Its hard to see the routes on the map. The animation is too much and avatars are ugly. Played the old version a lot! The new version is so frustrating and just makes us angry. So sad! It was such a great game. We played it a lot.
While Im sure it will be a nice upgrade even coming from the classic DoW version which was excellent, the iOS version doesnt allow you to select font sizes so we have a hard time seeing the tiny number of cards, trains, etc. Really quite a simple UI goof and a shame they havent fixed it yet.
We mean, this is awful compared to the old version. Its worse in every possible way. What were you thinking?
Today our classic version of Ticket To Ride stopped loading. We have to pay to download the updated version. The new version doesnt allow us to sign in to Game Center but wants us to create a new 3rd party account. This version is also missing many of the game boards we had previously Asia, UK, Switzerland, 1910, India, etc only North America & Europe maps (more $$). Why does every update also feel the need to add flashy graphics & needless animations. Why cant you just have a classic game board experience like we had previously? We are very disappointed in this version. We love playing this game but dont often have anyone to sit down and play the real board game with.
Husband and we downloaded to play together when apart for work. First time using app it was a little glitchy and the other person could only get an invite from the apps home page. Next and all subsequent times weve tried to use it, the invites fail to go through at all if the other person has the app open and if they arent in the app then they get the invite but the invite only takes them into the app but wont connect to the shared game. If this function doesnt work then the game is useless to us and we want our money back. We have both deleted and redownloaded. We have tried from the same WiFi source. We have logged out of out bubble accounts and logged back in. We have tried from different devices. Nothing seems to fix the issue. Its very clearly a software issue at this point. Until this is fixed this app keeps a one star from us.
This game is not worth it without pass to play. Our family plays this game on road trips that way, and to not have that feature is really disappointing. We hope the new studio adds that feature in the future.
We need a ranking system where we earn points by beating other players. We do not want a progression system where we are just getting ranked by how many games we play. In the last TTR game we all got some points depending on how we placed. If we lost a game then we lost points.
Not sure why all the hate — we played on our MacBook and aside from a few slight adjustments to work with the programming for the iPad, this version is way sleeker, easy play, great graphics. We loved!
